Histophatological Studies on Parapsoriasis

Abstract
Histologic features of eighteen cases of pityriasis lichenoides were reviewed.
Of the epidermal changes, parakeratosis was found in 72%, invasion of the epi¡þdermis by mononuclear cells in 78%, focal cell death in 33%, eczema changes in
,61%, vacuolization of the basal cells in -36% and elongation of rete ridges in 44%.
In the dermis, inflammatory cell infiltration was found mostly in the upper dermis and perivasculary in all specimens. The infiltrates consisted of mixture of lymphocytes and histiocytes, with a preponderence of lymphocytes, but large atypical cells were not observed.
Of the other dermal features, papillary edema was found in 61%, RBC extravasations in 67%, and vessel changes in 39%.
In some cases, the histologic findings were not correlated with clinical features
and there was intermediate gradation in histologic features in other cases.
On the basis of above findings, pity riasis lichenoides et variolifor is acute and
pityriasis lichenoides chronica seem to be the variants of a single disease process. Even there was no complication of malignant reticulosis in studied group, further
evaluation of these cases are needed.
